CYA GALA

In 2019 the Chicago Yachting Association celebrated 60 years of existence.
In past years we celebrated the end of the boating season by having
a Chicago Yachting Celebration. In 2019 we decided to have a 60th
year anniversary Gala. The event took place on the Spirit of Chicago on
December 5th.
We were scheduled to leave the Pier at 6:45 sharp and return by 10:00.
Unfortunately the weather on this day did not cooperate; the winds were
extremely high; and it was raining and cold. There were several guests
that came to the event but could not board because the ramp to the boat
was too unstable. There were others that were able to board, but due to
motion sickness had to leave.
The highlight of the evening was me having the honor to present the
Yachtsman of the Year award to my friend Capt. Toby Lindo. Toby was very
excited about receiving the award, and during his acceptance speech, he
gave a little bit of history on his boating journey and he thanked the CYA
for awarding him the honor of being Yachtsman of the Year of the Chicago
Yachting Association.
Before the evening ended, the majority of the guests were up on the dance
floor, rocking, and swaying with the movement of the boat and just having
a really great time. Thanks to the committee for working hard to make this
a memorable event.
